There have been many discussions recently about the potential opportunity of hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic Games in BC.  The proposed 2030 bid would be dramatically different, and poised to be the first ever Indigenous-led Olympic Games. But what does that actually mean?

SMCC YVR is thrilled to host a conversation with Tewanee Joseph to answer that question and more. We will discuss what Indigenous leadership of a 2030 bid looks like, and the broader engagement of First Nations in the events and sponsorship landscape.

About Tewanee Joseph

Tewanee, currently the Canadian Olympic Committee's Head of Indigenous Inclusion and Partnerships, is a core member of the COC as they hope to bring the 2030 Olympics and Paralympics to British Colombia with a Indigenous-led bid.

Previously, Tewanee served as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Four Host First Nations Secretariat for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Tewanee has worked with the Organizing Committee and its partners to ensure unprecedented Aboriginal participation in the planning, hosting and staging of the 2010 Games.

In this role, he spearheaded the largest re-brand of Aboriginal people in Canadian history, and led the team that overcame countless obstacles and doubt to create a world renowned brand, and a new model for inclusivity.
